Hey everyone,
We are always trying to stay on top in our sign installation industry with all of new rules, trends and updates. Everyone, in our opinion, have deal with permit delays or last-minute changes to customers requirements—so the right information is always handy. To help the fellow sign installers stay informed and avoid those headaches, our team at V. Creative Graphics put together a list of the resources that we rely on – the ones we consider essential.
To Staying Informed
Safety Is Must: Ministry of Labour & TSSA
Safety isn’t optional in our line of work. These two organizations set the standards we all have to follow:
- Ontario Ministry of Labour – our entire team maintains valid Working at Heights training, and we always check the Ministry’s site for updates.
- TSSA (Technical Standards & Safety Authority) – for our peers that installed illuminated signage, TSSA is the authority. Please regularly review your updates to make sure every install meets electrical safety requirements.
Know the Local Rules: City of Toronto Bylaws
If you install signs in Toronto, you know the permit process can be a kind of an adventure judging that Toronto’s Sign Bylaw (Chapter 694) controls everything—sizes, locations, types, heritage restrictions. Be sure than you or your client who’ll pass the sign installation for you review their page often.
Keeping an Eye on Construction: Industry News
Signs follow construction. Knowing what’s being built helps us see what’s coming. See updates from reputable sites so early awareness of large developments may help you to prepare for future signage packages—interior and exterior.
What We’re Seeing Right Now
Here are the trends shaping our day-to-day work:
- Digital is taking over – LED walls, digital menu boards, interactive displays—they’re all in high demand. Think about investing in training for these types in sign installations.
- Safety standards keep rising – do not let certifications expire, you may double-check for fall protection.
- Supply chain – stay in close contact with your suppliers to get ahead of potential delays in key installation components.
