Materials

Our customers have a wide range of options when choosing vinyl graphics materials for accent walls, each tailored to various installation needs and aesthetic preferences. While many options for different types of vinyl, some prefer fabric wallcoverings or custom printed graphics. Here’s a breakdown of the most commonly vinyl materials:

  • Cast Vinyl: high-quality, flexible vinyl that conforms well to irregular surfaces and curves. Durable, long-lasting, and resistant to fading or cracking. It’s often used for detailed or complex designs and suitable for walls with curves or textured surfaces, as well as environments exposed to sunlight.
  • Calendered Vinyl: thicker and less flexible than cast vinyl, but still widely used for wall graphics. it is more affordable than cast vinyl, but may not last as long or conform as well to complex surfaces hence ideal for flat or slightly curved walls, particularly in indoor settings where long-term durability isn’t a primary concern.
  • Matte Vinyl: vinyl with a non-reflective finish that reduces glare, ideal for environments where lighting could cause reflections, making it easier to view the graphic from all angles and commonly used in residential settings, offices, or galleries where a subtle, elegant look is desired.
  • Gloss Vinyl: vinyl with a shiny, reflective finish that enhances color vibrancy, eye-catching and vibrant, but can be more prone to showing fingerprints or glare hence perfect for commercial spaces, retail environments, or any setting where a bold, high-impact visual is desired.
  • Textured Vinyl: vinyl with a surface texture, such as linen, canvas, or wood grain that adds a tactile element to wall graphics, making them not only visually appealing but also interesting to touch. Often used in high-end residential spaces or luxury commercial environments where a unique, sophisticated look is needed.
  • Removable Vinyl: designed for easy removal without damaging the underlying wall surface, ideal for temporary installations, events, or rented spaces where non-permanent décor is necessary and used for seasonal decorations, promotional graphics, or any situation where the graphic may need to be removed or replaced frequently.
  • Printable Vinyl: vinyl that can be custom printed with any design, allowing for complete customization; available in both matte and gloss finishes, this vinyl allows for high-resolution printing of custom designs, logos, or images and applicable for creating unique, branded environments or personalized spaces with bespoke designs.
  • PVC-Free Vinyl: an eco-friendly alternative to traditional vinyl made without PVC (polyvinyl chloride). It is more environmentally friendly, often with similar durability and ease of installation as traditional vinyl. Judging by those characteristics it is increasingly popular in settings where sustainability is a priority, such as in corporate offices or educational institutions.

Fabric Wallcoverings offer a unique texture and are often used for high-end installations. They are more delicate to handle and install. Fabric wallcoverings are crafted from a variety of materials, each offering unique aesthetics, textures, and functional benefits. Common materials used in fabric wallcoverings include:

  • Natural Fibers:
    • Linen: Provides a rustic, elegant look and a textured surface.
    • Silk: Offers a luxurious, smooth finish with a subtle sheen, often used in high-end spaces.
    • Cotton: Known for its softness and breathability, it can be used in a variety of styles.
    • Wool: Adds a textured and cozy feel, often used for sound absorption.
    • Grasscloth: Made from natural grasses, this is popular for its organic, textured look.
  • Synthetic Fibers:
    • Nylon: Durable and easy to clean, often used in commercial spaces.
    • Polyester: Known for its strength, stain resistance, and fade resistance.
    • Acrylic: Lightweight and versatile, often blended with other fibers for added durability.

  • Paper-backed Fabric:
    • A fabric is adhered to a paper backing, making it easier to hang and ensuring stability during installation.
  • Foil and Mylar:
    • These materials are often combined with fabric to create reflective or metallic finishes for a more modern and eye-catching design.

Vinyl wallpaper is one of the most durable and versatile types of wall coverings, made from different layers of materials. They are are popular because of their versatility, durability, and easy maintenance, making them suitable for both residential and commercial installations. The main materials used for vinyl wallpaper include:

  • Solid Vinyl: 100% vinyl (PVC), extremely durable, water-resistant, and washable. It’s ideal for high-moisture areas like bathrooms and kitchens hence offers excellent resistance to moisture, stains, and abrasion.
  • Vinyl-Coated Paper:  developed of a paper base with a thin layer of vinyl coating, adds durability and makes the wallpaper washable and moisture-resistant, but it remains relatively flexible and easy to install and provides a more natural, matte appearance while still offering moderate protection against moisture.
  • Vinyl-Coated Fabric: a fabric layer (cotton, linen, polyester, etc.) coated with a thin layer of vinyl that combines the texture and look of fabric with the durability and washability of vinyl hence ideal for areas requiring a sophisticated, fabric-like appearance with enhanced durability.
  • Paper-Backed Vinyl: a paper backing with a thick vinyl layer applied to the top, the vinyl that provides strong moisture and stain resistance, making it ideal for commercial settings or high-traffic areas. In addition, it easier to install and remove, and provides excellent durability.
  • Fabric-Backed Vinyl: a fabric backing (often polyester or cotton) laminated with a solid vinyl top layer, extremely strong and durable, often used in commercial or industrial settings where high traffic or impact is a concern. Vinyl is more resistant to tearing and stretching compared to paper-backed vinyl. Often used in hotels, hospitals, and offices.
  • Embossed Vinyl: paper-backed or fabric-backed vinyl with an embossed texture on the surface, provides a raised, textured surface that mimics materials like stone, brick, or wood hence adds dimension and depth to walls, and the vinyl surface is still easy to clean and maintain.
