Fellow vinyl installers – it is a time to almost finalize our long journey to the wonderful world of vinyl graphics and wraps installation tools with some details for vinyl cutting machines, edge sealer pens and wrap gloves.
Vinyl Cutting Machine
Those cutting machines for vinyl graphics installations come in various types, each suited for different needs and skill levels. We are rarely directly use them for large vinyl size of big quantity of installation graphics judging that companies, specialized on this type of work, are more suitable for those types of applications. Anyways, below are two most common types of these:
Manual Vinyl Cutters – these types require the user to physically operate the blade and guide the material; they are suitable for small-scale projects and are often more affordable hence we use them depending on graphics installation project timeframe and complexity. Let’s explore a bit of offerings from the lead manufacturers of those machines:
- Cricut Maker: offers precise cuts with various materials, including vinyl. The rotary blade and knife blade allow for intricate designs and thicker materials; versatile, user-friendly, and has a strong online community for support and ideas but requires a power source and is more suited for smaller projects. To summarize this machine offers a range of features for crafters and hobbyists and can cut over 300 materials, including vinyl, cardstock, fabric, and more. The machine is compatible with 13 different tools for cutting, writing, scoring, foiling, engraving, embossing, and other functions; designed for precision cutting, allowing you to create intricate designs and detailed projects. It works with Cricut’s Design Space software, which enables you to create and design your projects before sending them to the machine for cutting. Last, but not least, the machine is user-friendly, making it accessible for beginners while still offering advanced features for more experienced users.
- Silhouette Cameo 4: high cutting force, allowing for thicker materials, built-in roll feeder, and crosscutter for convenience; high precision, versatile, with a strong software suite but learning curve for the software, which might require some initial setup and training. Here are more details for this machine: cutting width up to 12 inches (30.5 cm), cutting length up to 10 feet (3 meters) with a lined media or up to 60 feet (18.3 meters) with a roll feeder, cutting force up to 5 kg (5000 grams), which is five times stronger than its predecessor, the Cameo 3. This allows for cutting thicker materials like leather and craft foam. It supported auto blade (automatically adjusts depth based on material settings), rotary blade (for fabric and other specialty materials), kraft blade (for thicker materials) and pen holder (for sketching). Really important the machine connectivity through USB direct connection to a computer, bluetooth (wireless) connectivity for convenience and, to have ability to save vinyl graphics cutting projects, Silhouette Cloud. The latest model has improved speed over previous models, allowing for faster cutting without sacrificing accuracy and provides quieter operation compared to many other cutting machines.
- Brother ScanNCut SDX125: built-in scanner, automatic material sensor, and a large touchscreen; can scan and cut without a computer, very user-friendly, versatile for various materials but more expensive than some other options, software is less robust than competitors. A bit more details: it comes with 682 built-in designs, including 100 quilt patterns and 9 lettering fonts, providing multiple ways to quickly create and edit designs on the 5” LCD touchscreen display. The machine features Auto Blade sensor technology that automatically detects the thickness of the material, eliminating the need for manual blade adjustment or material selection. The Brother ScanNCut SDX125 can cut materials up to 0.1” (3 mm) in thickness, making it suitable for cutting a wide variety of materials like foam and felt. This machine is wireless network ready, allowing to wirelessly connect your PC or mobile device to transfer cut data from the Brother CanvasWorkspace application. Fast and easy editing of designs is possible directly on the machine thanks to the 5″ LCD touchscreen display. The SDX125 operates quietly, which is ideal for crafting without disturbing others. You can create projects right out of the box without the need for a computer or mobile device that is really useful at some particular installation locations and, in addition, it also offers built-in storage for blades and tools, and it has a slide tray in the back for smooth, even mat feeding.
- Graphtec CE Lite-50: high precision cutting, comes with Graphtec Studio software, and has a built-in roll feeder reliable and precise, good for mid-sized projects, compatible with various software but more expensive, larger footprint compared to other manual machines. Some of the technical details are: it can handle media up to 20 inches wide, making it a step up from smaller desktop cutters like the Silhouette Cameo (see above); the machine features a touch-screen interface for ease of use; equipped with ARMS 7.0 (Advanced Registration Mark Sensing system) for automated contour cutting of printed labels and stickers; offers cropmark-free cutting and barcode reading capabilities and, which is useful, works with Graphtec’s proprietary software, which includes functions like creating contour cut lines, vectorizing images, and adding registration marks. CE Lite-50 is well-suited for small to medium side graphics installation businesses who’d like to have a reliable cutter for projects involving heat transfer vinyl, stickers, and other vinyl graphics and wraps applications. USCutter manufacturer has variety of vinyl cutting machine types such as USCutter MH Series that are affordable, come in various sizes, and include basic software These cutting machines are great for beginners and effective for standard vinyl cutting tasks but having a lower precision compared to higher-end models.
