Judging by our experience of installing digital print media products from FDC Graphic Films, Inc., you’ll require to pay attention to detail and proper techniques to ensure the best results. We are providing some key steps and tips for successful installation of Lumina® Print Media:

Preparation:

  • Ensure the installation surface is clean, dry, and free from dust, grease, or other contaminants. Use a suitable cleaning agent and a lint-free cloth.
  • Do installation at the recommended temperature (usually between 50°F and 90°F). Extreme temperatures can affect adhesion and flexibility of the vinyl.
  • Use a good-quality squeegee with a felt edge to apply even pressure and avoid scratching the vinyl.
  • For transferring cut vinyl graphics, use a suitable application tape that adheres well to the vinyl but releases cleanly.

Installation Techniques:

  • Use masking tape to position the graphic on the surface. Create a hinge by taping along one edge.
  • Peel back the liner to expose the adhesive. Starting from the hinge, use the squeegee to apply the vinyl, working outwards to avoid bubbles.
  • Work methodically from the center outwards to smooth the vinyl and remove air bubbles.
  • Use the squeegee to push out air bubbles from the center to the edges.
  • Allow the graphic to dry thoroughly before removing any application tape (usually 24 hours).

Post-Installation:

  • Check for bubbles, edges lifting, or any areas that did not adhere properly. Use a pin to puncture bubbles and smooth out air.
  • Allow the adhesive to cure fully, which can take up to 48 hours. Avoid washing or exposing the surface to harsh conditions during this period.

For some of Lumina® film please follow manufacture special recommendations:

  • Air Egress Adhesive (e.g., Lumina® 7238): This type of adhesive allows for easier installation without bubbles. Use firm squeegee strokes to ensure good adhesion and bubble-free results.
  • Static Cling Film (e.g., Lumina® 7262): Ensure the surface is very clean, as static cling films rely on static electricity rather than adhesive. Apply with water to aid in positioning and use a squeegee to remove bubbles.
  • Reflective Films (e.g., Lumina® 7304): Apply with care to ensure proper alignment and smooth out using a squeegee to ensure reflectivity is not compromised.
