Professional Installation Techniques for 3M DI-NOC Film

A smooth, professional finish relies on expert surface preparation and application. That’s what we, professional graphics installers, do:

  • clean thoroughly using isopropyl alcohol or mild detergent to remove dust, oils, or debris.
  • smooth the surface—fill cracks, sand rough areas, and make sure edges are clean.
  • prime if needed, especially on porous surfaces like wood or concrete, to boost adhesion.
  • measure surface dimensions (!!!) and allow an additional 2–4 inches for trimming.
  • clean edges by using a sharp utility knife but for irregular surfaces, we create templates from paper or tape before cutting the film.

There are two application methods that we use for installation: dry application (mostly for flat surfaces) and wet Application (for large or curved surfaces)

Our installation steps for dry application are:

  • begin by peeling a small section of the liner.
  • align the film, and using a felt-edged squeegee, press from the center outward to remove air bubbles.
  • continue peeling the backing gradually as you smooth the film into place.
  • trim excess edges using a sharp precision knife.

Steps for wet application are:

  • spray both the surface and adhesive side with a light soap-and-water mix (a few drops of dish soap in water).
  • position the film and adjust as needed.
  • use a squeegee to push out moisture and air bubbles, starting from the center outward.
  • allow 24–48 hours for full drying before heavy use.

Post-installation finishing is highly important:

  • for rounded or recessed surfaces, our installers gently use a heat gun to conform the film.
  • we seal edges with clear edge sealer (if the application is in a high-moisture or high-abrasion area).
  • finally, our team member performs a quality check for air pockets or lifting edges and rework with the squeegee as needed.
